Rwanda is preparing to roll out the Gardasil 9 human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in 2026 as part of its nationwide effort to eliminate cervical cancer by 2027.

The vaccine protects against nine HPV strains, including those linked to most cervical cancers, and will be offered free of charge through public health facilities.

The expanded vaccination effort will also include adult women who missed earlier vaccination programmes, aiming for broader coverage and stronger cancer prevention. Authorities are coordinating procurement and future training of healthcare workers for effective nationwide distribution.
